Sixth Form at Queen Ethelburga’s is much more than a two-year study course. It is a time to build the bridge from youth to adulthood, school to higher education and a career.
It is a time for tackling a deeper involvement in the community and learning to value well-earned privileges, as well as taking on additional roles in the running of the school and the organisation of House activities.
We offer a wide range of Sixth Form courses, all of which require a high level of commitment, a willingness to research information and a genuine interest in the subject.
Students can opt for 4 or 5 A-levels, or the International Baccalaureate, or BTEC Courses or a mix of BTEC Courses and A-Levels. In addition, for Equestrian minded students, there is the ability to add the BHSAI riding exams at Stages I, II, III and PTT. Recent Sixth Formers have gone on to Oxbridge as well as other prestigious universities. 98% of our Sixth Form go onto University including Oxford and Cambridge.

We expect our Sixth Formers to study hard and we provide them with tuition in advanced study skills and a host of resource materials. Careers advice is a time-tabled subject and the choosing of university courses, interview techniques and filling in of UCAS forms are the subject of detailed scrutiny.
All our Sixth Formers are encouraged to take part in the Young Enterprise Scheme, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme or choose from a comprehensive range of other rewarding activities.
Clearly, we expect our Sixth Formers to have a well developed sense of responsibility, whether they have spent their earlier school career at Queen Ethelburga’s or joined us from other schools.
