On our 100 acre campus there were originally two Independent Schools:
Chapter House Preparatory School ~ for boys and girls 3 years to 11 years, and
Queen Ethelburga’s College ~ for boys and girls 11 years to 20 years.
We have now created and registered a separate third school called:
Queen Ethelburga’s Faculty ~ for boys and girls 14 years to 20 years.
This new Independent School recognises the wide range of qualifications available to students and offers several alternatives to the traditional A Level programme of study for students in Years 12 and 13. The Faculty range of subjects and academic support available to students in Years 10 and 11 has also expanded. Our Foundation has begun building "The Genesis Centre" which will be the base for the Queen Ethelburga’s Faculty. As this new building comes on-line in stages, it will enable the Faculty to offer a much wider and more diverse range of courses alongside A Levels.
The usual requirements for entry into Queen Ethelburga’s College Sixth Form are 6 GCSEs at Grade C or above, with at least 4 at B or above. Students should achieve Grade C or above in English language and Mathematics and Grade B or above in all subjects to be studied at A Level. If you are intending to study a subject at AS Level that you have not studied at GCSE Level, you will be expected to demonstrate your ability in other relevant subjects. If you fail to meet these requirements and there are special circumstances that may have affected your performance, or you have alternative qualifications, your application will be considered on an individual basis.
The entry requirements for the QE Faculty Sixth Form is more flexible. For the BTEC courses you will be invited to attend an interview or audition where you will be assessed on your ability in your specialist subject. Acceptance will be based on aptitude and enthusiasm. Ideally you will have passed at least four GCSE’s at Grade CD, including English and Mathematics, although it is possible for students to retake English and Mathematics if necessary.
The Sixth Form courses in the Faculty can combine academic study with specialist BTEC courses which have a more applied and practical approach. All courses will offer the opportunity for students to progress to suitable courses at University. If University is not their intended route then the courses offered by the Faculty can be structured to provide vocational training useful for further study or entry to worthwhile careers.
Thus there are two different Sixth Form streams - Queen Ethelburga’s College traditional multi A-Level stream or International Baccalaureate and the alternative Queen Ethelburga’s Faculty more vocational stream. Both 6th Forms join together for many activities, meals, assemblies, activities etc., Both 6th Forms dress similarly and a visitor to the campus would be unable to tell which 6th Form stream someone was in.
